Alert Citizen Helps Police in Arrest of Teen for Burglary
A tip from a neighbor and the diligence of the police led to the quick arrest of a Lake Saint Louis teen.
An alert citizen helped the Wentzville Police Department make a quick arrest in a residential break-in that occurred just this morning.
The department received a phone call from a vigilant citizen around 9 a.m. The citizen advised police that someone was breaking into a residence located in the 300 block of Coley Court.
The caller gave police a description of the car used in the burglary, and officers quickly responded to the area.
"Due to a diligent effort by responding officers, the vehicle was located as it was westbound on Perry Cate Boulevard going towards Hwy Z. Officers initiated a stop on the car and found it occupied by the driver and sole occupant, Austin M. Johnston, 17, of the 200 block of Oak Ridge Lane, Lake St. Louis," Major Paul West reported in a press release.
The investigation, subsequent to the stop, led to the recovery of property taken from the residence with a value of approximately $4,000, along with a quantity of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia.
Charges of burglary and stealing were sought through the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and were issued. Johnston is being held in lieu of a $20,000.00 cash only bond.
