Cheryl Kross Seeks Reelection

Wants to focus on citizens' priorities.

Cheryl Kross, the incumbent Ward 1 alderman, is listening to the people.

"That's what I focus on," she said. "We have the citizen survey. People told us want they want and I think we need to focus on those items."

On that list of citizen priorities is improving traffic flow in the city and reducing congestion.

The people of also want to see a reduction in vast number of vacant lots within the city.

"The city needs to partner with the homeowners associations and the homeowners  to work together to address their concerns," she said.

Kross said she just recently learned that in some neighborhoods, the homeowners association covenants and indentures allow for the city to appoint people to the association board if the previous members are found to have abandoned their duties. This involves a complicated legal process, but Kross said it might end up aiding those people living in subdivisions where the builder is gone and the homeowners don't have control of their association.

"We need to protect homeowners going forward," Kross said. "We have learned a lot over the past few years with the housing crisis and we need to use what we have learned going forward."

Kross said she sees her role on the board as the voice of the people.

"I am here to listen and speak up for the people of Wentzville," she said. "I hope to be an educator."

To educate herself, Kross said she sits in on as many city board meetings — planning and zoning, storm water, etc. — to learn as much as she can about the workings of the city.

Kross supported the board of aldermen's January decision to put a question about from two to four years.

"It puts us closer to what other cities in the area are doing," she said. "It gives the city officials time to work with staff and see projects through. I think the citizens should have the right to decide on this issue."

Kross got into politics slowly, moving from someone sitting on the sidelines to an active participation.

"I asked myself, 'what can I do?' Everyone has a responsibility in life to participate in what is going on around you," she said.

Kross said she loves working together with diverse groups to make the city of Wentzville a better place to live and, if reelected, hopes to continue doing just that.

"This is a wonderful place to live," she said. "We have a variety of shops, the people are so friendly and warm and we really are at the crossroads of everything."
