Poll: Does Wentzville Need Two Shooting Ranges?

The Wentzville Board of Aldermen recently approved zoning and site plans for two new indoor shooting ranges in the city limits.

New businesses are booming in Wentzville. Along with a hotel, a clothing store and a drive-through Chinese restaurant, two new indoor shooting ranges will make Wentzville their home.

I find it amazing that the a Cracker Barrel was denied to be built in Wentzville because of the "clientele that it would bring in" yet two gun ranges and their clientele will be good for Wentzville. Board of Aldermen, or someone please explain this wisdom!

I hadn't heard that about a Cracker Barrel -- Salvatore, do you know how long ago that happened?

It was about at least two years ago. It was a local article and I cant remember if it was in a newspaper article or if it was the minutes of a alderman meeting. But it specifically stated in the article it was the "clientele" and that is why I commented on the article. The article mentioned nothing about the type of structure for the building to be built to. I was shocked when I read it as I love Cracker Barrel also.

What kind of clientele go to Cracker Barrel? I go to Cracker Barrel. I would also like to learn to use a handgun. Am I the wrong kind of person? I'm sad now. I always though of myself as the right kind of person.

Let the market decide. If there are not enough gun owners and shooting enthusiest than one or both will close soon after they open. I don't think they will.

Anything that makes Wentzville more of a destination location. Renkin Tech, Ren Fest, Wabash Days, Gun Ranges, Sams, Rural King, etc.. Personally I would like to see 40/Hwy A area start being developed. An Aldi's, CostCo, Steakhouse, Movie Theater and a Huge YMCA would be great candidates for all that land. My opinion is the more people we get coming here from outside Wentzville the less taxes I have to pay to have great streets, schools and government.

I've always wondered why Wentzville doesn't have a movie theater. Any ideas? The two in O'Fallon and Dardenne Prairie aren't too far, but I'm sure a theater in Wentzville could get good business.

I vote for three ranges. Wentzville needs a Skeet and Trap range, too.

It is my understanding that Cracker Barrel would not build out here because of Wentzville's building requirements. The City requires that all new businesses build buildings that are made of brick, stone, or block variation. Cracker Barrel only builds metal warehouse type buildings with a brick front. Wentzville said yes if you build to code and Cracker Barrel said no.

Why did Alderperson Sonya Shryock vote on the Heartland Gun Shooting Range when her husband works and her brother owns the engineering company that designed the addition. Is this not a conflict of interest? Very dishonest/unethical behavior makes people weary about government and gives the city a bad name. How about a follow up story on this behavior?

If you were present at the meeting, then you would have heard Ms. Shyrock verbally remove herself from the vote. It is probably best to get your facts straight before you make accusations on a public online forum.
