When asked to sum up Presidential Candidate Ron Paul in one word, one supporter from Sullivan, MO had three: "Amazingly, awesomely awesome!"

That enthusiastic young man was just one of a large crowd that began lining up two hours early in anticipation of a 3 p.m. town hall meeting with Ron Paul at Hyland Arena on the Lindenwood Campus. Many of the supporters carried signs and the crowd occasionally broke into a chant, "Ron-Paul-Ron-Paul-Ron-Paul," and cheered and whistled when someone would impulsively shout out "Who's for Ron Paul?"

Roger Beanland heads up the Ron Paul camp in Decatur, IL. Beanland told Patch that he was excited to serve as an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in Florida. Beanland was attending the Lindenwood Town Meeting with his wife Lynda and fellow Paul supporter Nancy Cummins.

"We need some strong voices," Cummins said.

Alan Schmidt, a Ron Paul campaign worker from Granite City, sold t-shirts behind his car in the parking lot. When Patch asked him about Paul's chances in the race, he said, "His chances are much better than the mainstream media is telling us. A lot of people that are pledged to Gingrich, Romney and Santorum . . . in their second or third vote, they're going to vote with their hearts and go with Ron Paul. I think he's going to be a surprise for the people."

Schmidt mentioned that the Illinois primary was coming up. "The 20th is the big day for the state of Illinois, and we're doing our best."

Ron Paul has very loyal supporters. If things continue like they have, Ron Paul will pass the LIbertarian torch over to Gary Johnson in May. Gary Johnson shares the same beliefs as Ron Paul, but Johnson will be able to sustain the fight for Libertarian ideals right up to the November election.

Nothing is being handed over to the unknown Gary Johnson, nor will he be able to sustain what he is not responsible for. Should Dr Paul endorse somebody that would no doubt help that individual, but spreading rumours like this is nonsensical and unhelpful.

Why doesn't Ron Paul have more supporters of color? It seems only white people support him. Why?

The idea that "only white people support him" is entirely wrong; Dr Paul has supporters of every race and ethnic group in the USA. If you look at the people in his rallies on Youtube you will notice that in ethnically mixed areas you get an ethnically mixed crowd; in traditionally all-white communities you get mostly whites. We really don't care, however, because ALL his supporters believe in peace, prosperity and liberty no matter what irrelevant differences of age, height, weight, skin colour, favourite baseball team, or whether they prefer Coke or Pepsi.

Why do liberals always pull out that racist card in these political discussions? It has nothing to do with race.

Sorry, I didn't at all mean to be pulling out the "racist" card. It was truly out of curiosity. The media coverage of the Ron Paul events I've seen are almost pure white crowds. Of all of the GOP candidates, I'd expect to see more people of color supporting Ron Paul than any of the others, and was wondering why I didn't see that in the crowds (I've seen in media).

I didn't mean to imply anything there. I was wondering if the actual gatherings were far more racially mixed than reflected in the media.

Stephen - Thanks for the comment. I figured I was there to report on what Paul said and what people attending the event said about him. Had there been people in opposition to his message--protesters or people who obviously oppose him--I would have reported on that (keeping it in somewhat relative proportion). I think people should know what all the candidates believe and make an informed decision based on that information.
