The Real World of Porn

Porn is not sexy or erotic, says columnist Joe Smith.

This article may just the worst thing I’ve ever written.

I have poured over many stories the last couple of weeks and read accounts that brought me to tears.  Pornography is not sexy or erotic.  What appears on the screen may appear to be but the truth behind the screen is that pornography is lie.

Pornography sells you that these men and women are doing this for pleasure and they get to make money doing it.  Pornography tells you that this is what sex looks like and this is what you’re to do during sex when the truth is that much of what is filmed is not pleasurable and sometimes may be considered rape.  Pornography tries to say it helps relationships but unfortunately does nothing be degrades people.

I said before that porn is not a legal or constitutional problem but a problem of the heart.  Want to make sure your child or student doesn’t get entangled with porn’s snare?  Appeal to their heart.

Please understand that some of what you’ll read below gets graphic.  So reader discretion is advised.

Former porn star Veronica Lane tells her story that is eerily similar to many performers’.  She started into pornography through stripping and then prostitution.

At age 17, I came to live in Colorado again with my mother and stepfather. As soon as I turned 18 I was out of there.  I was free to do what I wanted and be an "adult" Thinking I was grown up, I went to Denver to live on my own. I hadn't even finished high school yet. I wanted to be in radio and TV production which never happened. I stayed in a small studio apartment with my older sister. I was introduced to parties, drugs, and worst of all, stripping. I watched my sister come home with her friend with a duffle bag full of one dollar bills. They wore sexy clothes and it looked like fun and easy money. I said, "I could do that" and I started out dancing at an all nude club downtown that would hire you if you were 18. This place was a real dive. I would then move on to doing private parties then prostitution and it all seemed the same to me.

I continued making money and I was able to get my own place. I didn't even have to go to school. I would work, make money, party and do whatever I wanted. I thought I was having the time of my life. I forgot about school, or a regular job and my future. I never thought I would make it to the age of 30 the way I was living so I didn't care. I was sure I would be dead by then.

When the camera started rolling I was trying to cope with having my first lesbian experience when all of the sudden, two men entered the scene who I didn't know I would be filming with. I was so traumatized that I just blocked out everything. I just checked out and became Veronica Lain, the porn star.

After the scene I really felt I had done something bad and I hated myself.

The next thing I knew, I was in Las Vegas at a porn convention signing autographs and posing with fans. I wasn't even famous but yet they made me feel like I was and it hooked me even more. I did some more movies in Las Vegas and did not sleep much at all. I wasn't even old enough to gamble. You can make a porn movie in Vegas but you can't gamble or drink. That's just wrong.

Veronica goes to tell tales of drug abuse, of self-medicating to deal with the pain of her lifestyle.  She has since escaped this world and is moving on with her life.  She carries with her the scars and STD’s as a reminder of all that she “gained” while in porn. (Story from shelleyluben.com)

There is an evil that crawls through the world of porn and can be seen if we would just take a moment to pull back the very thin veil.  What looks like two people engaging in out of this world sex is almost all the time a reduction of two human beings into pieces of meat.  One woman said that you have no soul in the world of porn.

Former pornographic performer Alex Devine described a scene she did for a movie that was so painful and extreme in its violence that she had to stop filming several times because of the amount of pain she endured.  She talked about the volume of drugs that were on the set and the total lack of hygiene.

The article on Convenanteyes.com entitled Ex-Porn Star Tells the Truth goes on to say that there is a natural tendency towards extremely abusive hardcore sex acts.

Over and over and over person after person told tales of abuse.  They talked about the total lack of regard for others well-being.  They spoke of women reduced to sex toys and men to robots, all lacking empathy for one another.

We have to understand that these movies aren’t something that most of the “stars” enjoyed.  In all of the reading, I came across one woman that came out the other side of porn with a positive experience.  She is the exception to the rule.  There are thousands of people being abused and used so we, as a nation, can get off and move on.

I said earlier that researching for this post was bad for my soul.  Writing this has caused heaviness in my heart that I can’t explain other than extreme sorrow.  Sorrow for having thought this was something to watch, that it was a “victimless crime” when it reality we are all victimized.  From the teen/pre-teen that gets their first taste of sex on porn all the way to the very people we watch.

And may I just say that porn is in no way freeing or for instruction.  The women who are portrayed as these sex-goddesses are often times no more than frightened young women who find themselves trapped in this world with little to no means of escape.

After my last article, Porn is Destroying your Child’s Brain, I was accused by some of trying to use religion as a means of controlling a woman’s sexuality.  Some also went on to say that pornography could enhance a person’s knowledge and performance of sex.

So let me emphasis this for everyone; there is nothing good about pornography.  NOTHING.  There is nothing redeeming or positive about pornography.  It is destructive for the viewer and if not more so for the performer.  It is a cancer that silently kills the hearts of those that participate in it.  It is a cancer that is completely avoidable and treatable but left untouched will warp a world view to the point of robbing someone of all meaningful human relationships.

Ladies and gentlemen, the question then becomes “What next?”  We will never legislate against pornography; it is a protected free speech.  We will never stop the enslavement of these women by sitting silently on the sidelines.

We must show our children this “glamorous” world of porn.  Teach them what it really is and then we’ll stop pornography.  If we stop watching, buying, streaming, downloading porn the money will dry up.  Movies and films and videos won’t be bankrolled.  Little girls growing up in abusive homes won’t have the option of selling themselves for the entertainment of millions and your children won’t have to deal with the aftermath of this addiction.

I understand that this may be in actuality impossible but if we don’t start then who will?  If you don’t fight for your children, who will?  The answer is no one.  So it must start with us.

It must start with you.  It must start in your homes.  It must start with your children.  And it must start now.
