Wentzville Parks Director Mary Jo Dessieux told Wentzville Patch that the fireworks display planned as part of the city's Fourth of July observance will go on as planned.

"We always have fire trucks standing by," Dessieux said.

The fireworks cap off the city's day-long celebration, which includes a parade, free swimming, live music and other activities at Progress Park.

Lake Saint Louis Ambassadors President Karen Little told Patch that Lake Saint Louis' display would also continue as planned.

"I have absolute respect for a city's concern for the safety of their citizens," Little said. "We're in better shape than most, because we shoot the fireworks out over the lake."

STLToday reported that fireworks displays have been canceled in Farmington, Manchester, Arnold, Eureka, Pacific and Columbia, IL and KMOV reported that Kirkwood is considering cancelling its display.

Little said that many residents choose to watch the fireworks from their boats, there are good viewing areas behind the hospital (SSM St. Joseph Hospital West), and from business areas on Lake Saint Louis Boulevard, such as near El Maguey to the west or Family Video to the east.

People watching the Lake Saint Louis fireworks can tune to 98.7 FM for a musical accompaniment to the display.
