Wentzville Celebrates Independence Day

Fireworks, swimming and a parade on tap for today.

Happy Fourth of July!

The city of is celebrating Independence Day today with a series of events designed to get people out and into the parks.

The day kicks off with a parade down Pearce Blvd. beginning at 3 p.m., according to Amy Hayes of the park department. This year's theme is "We the People."

The parade will begin at  and will go up Pearce, culminating at .

The parade will include a stroller brigade, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and several local businesses and organizations.

Parade Marshall

Jim Pitman is the 2011 Parade Marshall. The marshall is selected each year by the mayor. Pitman joined the family businesses in 1952, which at that time included Wentzville Mercantile Company, Pitman Funeral Home and Pitman Ambulance Service.

now operates funeral homes in Wentzville, Warrenton and Wright City.

Pitman is a member of the Rotary Club and the , and has served on several other organizations. 

He and his wife Harriet have been married for 54 years and have two children and seven grandchildren.

Schedule of Events

  • Noon to 7 p.m. — Free swimming at pool
  • 3 p.m. — Parade up Pearce Blvd.
  • 5-8:45 p.m. — Free inflatables at Progress Park
  • 5-8 p.m. — Clowns and balloons
  • 6-9 p.m. — Live music by Radio Rich (classic rock)
  • 9:05 p.m. — Fireworks display

The park will also have concession stands available with items for purchase.

"It's all really reasonable," Hayes said. "We will have $2 hot dogs and hamburgers and beverages for $1."

The fireworks display will be shot off from a location near Meyer Road.
