Wentzville Teen Seriously Injured in Hwy. 61 Crash

Sydney M. Lance was trying to turn onto Hwy. 61 from Hwy. P.

Sydney M. Lance, 16, of Wentzville was seriously injured in an automobile accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway P and Highway 61.

Lance's Honda was stopped for a stop sign but failed to yield to traffic, and was struck by a tractor trailer driven by  Michael D. Bobeen, 46, of Troy.

Lance then turned southbound on Hwy. 61 in the acceleration lane and attempted to change lanes to the right. She then struck a GMC Sierra driven by Darren E. Smith, 53, of Foristell, who was also traveling southbound.

Lance's Honda then traveled off the left side of the roadway, crossed the center median and entered the northbound lanes of Hwy. 61, where she struck a Ford Van being driven by Matthew W. Martin, 38, of Foristell.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that Lance was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. It is unknown if she was wearing a safety belt.
