Noises Off will be presented on March 14, 15 and 16 at Timberland High School.
(The following press release was submitted by Wentzville School District.) Timberland High School drama students will perform “Noises Off” on March 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm in the Carl Reininger Theater. “Noises Off” is a classic British farce about a play within a play. Act one opens with the cast rehearsing with less than twenty-four hours before the show opens—lines are forgotten and nerves are frayed. In act two, we see the play during a performance one month later, from backstage where relationships are slowly being revealed and ruined, along with the play itself. In act three, we see the play as the run of the show is almost over, and everyone and everything is slowly falling apart. This unbelievably hilarious show is written by …

"The Fallen," a supernatural thriller, examines why bad things happen to good people.
The second novel published by Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Michael Force and Assistant Chief Chris DiGiuseppi topped the regional best-seller list published by several St. Louis-area independent book stores for the week ending March 3. The Fallen, published by HCI Books, is a supernatural thriller-police procedural mix that expands on the concept of the first book. Four ritualistic murders and some unexplainable natural disasters that eventually coincide lead readers to further explore the series' theme: Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do people die? The regional best-sellers list includes books written by authors based in the St. Louis region and books whose subject matter is strongly focused on the St. Louis region. The …

Oz the Great and Powerful Mark Glass, Patch blogger: **½ This overlong prequel to the classic Wizard of Oz offers much to admire, but more to regret. Its new screenplay gives us the backstory on how the Wizard wound up there before Dorothy blew into town for her famous adventure. With the resources of the Disney empire and Sam Raimi at the helm, one might expect another fantasy for the ages. One would be severely disappointed. James Franco stars as Oz, a …

Jac the Giant Slayer Mark Glass, Patch blogger: ** Here’s yet another fairy tale stretched into a somewhat more adult action-adventure flick following what Hollywood has done lately to Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Hansel & Gretel, and perhaps a couple of others. These stem from a couple of irresistible temptations - the ease of creating fanciful worlds and creatures with today’s computer graphics, and the perceived box-office advantage of offering …

The program of six short plays will be presented at the Holt Auditorium on March 7, 8 and 9.
Holt High School will perform The Bully Plays: An Evening of Introspection on March 7, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. in C. H. Jones Auditorium. This evening of short plays and graphic display challenges audience members to examine their personal views and experiences with bullying from a number of perspectives. The evening’s first act showcases a collection of five short plays developed by writer Linda Habjan as a response to the bullying incidents young people face daily: The second part of the evening showcases Alan Haehnal’s one-act play “The Long View.” Holly (Allie Sanderson) breaks out of a relationship with her domineering boyfriend Travis (Will Pendergast) and turns for comfort to the peaceful Nate (Justin Bradbury). However, Holly’s …

Snitch Mark Glass, Patch blogger: ** Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson tries his hand at more realistic dramatic fare in this supposedly fact-inspired tale of a father trying to save his son from a long prison stretch on a shaky rap as a drug dealer. The kid is caught with a bag of pills. He’s been set up by his pal, who made him the fall guy when he was busted. All this one needs to do is find someone else to finger, or face a ridiculously harsh 10-year minimum …

Nalini Jones, 16, a dancer from Timberland High School, has moved on to the semi-final round of the 3rd Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition. This showcase of talented teen performers was first produced at the Fox Theatre in 1985 and 1986. In 2011, it was given new life by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation. Editor's Note: Some reviews and information aggregated from Moviefone. Save Haven Mark Glass, Patch blogger: **½ The quiet drama, based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, plods along as its inevitable romance blossoms, with some helpful advice from her other new friend—an attractive neighbor (Cobie Smulders), who seems nearly as secretive about her own backstory as our leading lady on the lam. We like Hough’s character, and hope she’s not really the perp of the pursuit, but don’t discover the truth of why she landed there for longer than the plot requires. Expect more focus on finding love than solving crimes as the tale unfolds. The action eventually picks up for a rather farfetched climax, with a welcome little perk at the end. If you find …

As part of the Cappies program, high school students review other high schools' theater productions.
(The following Cappies review was written by by Grace Malinee of Holt High School.) I’m Changing—and how! Tap dancing, kid-napping, speakeasies, and soy sauce. New York City was never the same after it met Millie Dillmount. Thoroughly Modern Millie, a musical written by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan and with music by Jeanine Tesori, premiered on Broadway in 2002. The story follows Millie Dillmount, an independent girl from Salina, Kansas, who moves to the Big Apple in search of fame, fortune, and a single, rich man to marry. In the year 1922, with the flapper culture at a high, Millie is determined to be thoroughly modern and follow the trend of other young girls of the day, to get a job as a typist and marry her boss, whether she loves…

Editor's Note: Some reviews and information aggregated from Moviefone. Identity Thief Mark Glass, Patch blogger: * This lame-brained comedy might actually be funnier that this rating indicates, though wasting gifted actors like Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy calls for consequences. Identity theft is a serious problem. That doesn’t preclude milking laughs from a hyperbolized example, but the script has to serve the cast and concept far better than this one does. Bateman plays a corporate financial drone with a lovely family and nice little life in Denver. McCarthy not only runs up huge bills and a DUI under his name in Florida, but does so just when he’s starting a great new job that will vanish within a week if he can’t clear the …
