Of all the businesses in our 12 Days of Christmas, Hallmark Cards and Gifts gave me the most trouble. What to choose from this store full of delights? Seven silky scarves?Seven snow globes?Seven Jim Shore angels? But a shelf of snowmen in lettermen's sweaters, holding little red megaphones—here was my pick for Day Seven! The Hallmark store at 518 W. Pearce has been offering a wide selection of greeting cards and gifts since 1995. For Christmas, the store has a wall full of Hallmark Keepsake ornaments and many other decorative Christmas items: snowglobes, Elf on the Shelf books and ornaments, …

Fireside Treasures is one of those shops where you don't generally go looking for something specific; you just go and find yourself delighted and surprised by the variety of antiques and collectibles they have to offer. On the day Patch visited, we saw a set of old Tarzan novels, a spinning wheel, a set of plates with painted portraits and a glass candy container in the shape of an old candlestick telephone. But the exception to the rule about finding something specific might be the shop's collection of chests and trunks. Fireside Treasures is well known for always having a supply of …
You often hear the admonition to "buy local." At Old Town Kettles & Cups, they take "local" very seriously. Owner Denise Menckowski does her best to stock her shop's shelves with beautifully crafted items from local artists and crafters. First, Menchowski pointed out that the tea cozies and wallets are handmade by a woman from St. Peters. Then she showed Patch the elegant wood-turned bowls, vases and wine stoppers that are the creation of a Wentzville man, and large prints framed with barn wood that are the work of a Lake Saint Louis photographer. Handmade jewelry is also created locally, and…

Wheel Sports Bicycle Shop, located at 402 S. Church Street, has everything a bicycling enthusiast or skateboarder could wish for, but the shop's best assets are its owner Steve Padilla, a former BMX pro and mountain bike racer who also designed and tested bike products for many years, and his son Nathan, 9, who has inherited his father's love for BMX racing. Their enthusiasm for the sport is apparent the minute you walk through the door. Padilla hopes someday to build a bike track behind the shop and hold a racing series right in downtown Wentzville. Wheel Sports offers full-service tune up …
It was a merry Christmas Eve at the mall. The stores are closing but you've finally found that last perfect present, so you head for the parking lot only to find that a foot and a half of snow has fallen. Budget Towing is on call 24/7, including holidays. And they work with AAA, Quest, Road America and some State Farm agencies, so there's a good chance you'll be covered.
