Mission: Clean Stream / GM Earth Day
General Motors is joining with Greenway Network, the municipalities of St. Charles County, Missouri River Relief, Big Muddy Refuge and a host of others on Mission: Clean Stream by hosting the GM Earth Day Celebration.
The Wentzville/Lake St. Louis Clean Stream volunteers will rendezvous at the GM Plant at 8 am, depart for clean up sites and will return there for lunch starting around 11:30 am (registration requested before April 1). In the meantime, there will be hands-on activities on location for all ages. This is a great chance to come out and learn more about Mission: Clean Stream and living green.
Try some ice cream made with nitrogen as you watch the Stream Trash ART sculptors create fabulous works of art using scrap metal and trash pulled from local creeks and streams. Heath Wells of Cee Kay Supply, sponsor of the START project, says “I put a lot of thought into coming up with ideas for the sculpture each year.” Ralph Rollins, creator of the project, is bringing in several other artists who will be doing hands on activities with the general public.
Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to drive several of the newest General Motors vehicles including the Volt, Cruze, and Spark. A brand new Chevy Camaro will also be available for the free Ride and Drive activity.
Vendors will have organic gardening supplies, upcycled art and instruments, soap, recycled wood décor, nature photography and many hands on green learning projects for kids. The St. Charles Soil and Water Conservation District will be demonstrating how trash and pollution get into our creeks and teaching ways to prevent it from happening. Greenway Network will show the types of critters who live in healthy streams. St. Charles County will provide information about recycling.
US Again will be collecting clothing and shoes. These items are used to generate funds for planting trees, including thousands of them across the St. Louis Region. You may bring your used goods to the festival.
As always, everyone is welcome to come out and cheer on the Mission: Clean Stream folks. Hear their stories about the weird trash they collect and fun they have. Sign up information is available at greenwaynetwork.org. Vendor applications are still available on the website as well.
These events are coordinated by Greenway Network and sponsored by GM, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Great Rivers Greenway, Cee Kay Supply, Missouri Stream Team and Ralph Rollins Studio.
