Yes or No: $700M on St. Louis Rams' Dome Upgrades?

The St. Louis Rams have outlined a renovation plan for the Edward Jones Dome that is estimated to cost $700 million.

The Rams want us to buy them a new house. Just fixing up its current home—the Edward Jones Dome—won't do. Instead, the St. Louis football franchise expects an extreme makeover, to the tune of $700 million, as it is estimated by a company hired by the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission (CVC) to analyze the team's counter proposal to a the CVC's own plan to upgrade the Edward Jones Dome with a $124 million facelift. If someone doesn't cough up the $700 mil to redo the Dome, it is feared the team will take its football and go home to Los Angeles, where it came from before it was the St. Louis franchise. All of this wrangling was set in motion in 1995 when the team negotiated a 30-year lease with the CVC. It was stipulated that the …

Should Rush Limbaugh Be in the Hall of Famous Missourians?

Rush Limbaugh was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians this week. An honor well deserved? Or a mistake on the part of Missouri lawmakers?

Rush Limbaugh, the controversial conservative commentator, was enshrined into the Hall of Famous Missourians this week, sparking controversy across the state and country on whether Limbaugh should be worth of such an honor. Limbaugh's name now sits amongst such famous Missourians as Mark Twain, Dred Scott, Jack Buck and Stan Musial. According to the St. Louis Beacon, Missouri House Speaker Steve Tilley gave reporters less than a half-hour’s notice of the ceremony. From the Beacon: Tilley’s decision to honor Limbaugh, a Cape Girardeau native, has sparked opposition from Democrats and progressives because of Limbaugh’s often strong words when he talks about people with whom he disagrees. Limbaugh’s bust will be placed in the Capitol’s Hall …

Board Considers Rezoning for New Independent Living Development

The new development, Twin Oaks At Stone Ridge, will include land for a future senior center in Wentzville.

A new independent living development adjacent to Twin Oaks Senior Living Campus at Heritage Pointe would also offer a location for a senior center if approved. At last week's Wentzville board of aldermen meeting, the board gave a first reading to a bill allowing the rezoning of an 8-acre parcel on Santa Elena Drive, north of Wentzville Parkway. The site is currently zoned R-3B, multi-family residential. The developers are asking for a rezoning to PD-R, Planned Development Residential. A pedestrian walkway will connect the two developments, and tenants of the new development would be able to use the dining room at Twin Oaks at Heritage Point.

George’s Alderman Highlights: May 07, 2012

Lake Saint Louis Ward 3 Alderman George Rich discusses topics from the May 7 board meeting.

Lakeview Storm Water Proj.: This project will cost about $0.5M and deals with storm water from O'Fallon Hills (St. Charles County) to Newport Terrace, to Blue Cove, across LSL Blvd., down Lakeview, and into the lake. It involves re-routing some utility lines. In the past the utility company paid for any re-routing of lines on city right-of-way. A recent ruling of the Missouri Supreme Court says cities should pay. Cities all over Missouri are unhappy about this ruling. We will have to increase the budget for this project to conform to this ruling. This will require further work and agreements with the utility companies. Freymuth Road Improvement: The utility company wants money from the city; see above. If we don't start work on this …

Senator Rupp: Honoring Our Veterans and Armed Forces

Local legislator offers opinion on issues.

(State Sen. Scott Rupp, R-Wentzville, has released his column for the week of May 7. The opinions expressed in the column are those of Sen. Rupp and do not reflect the views of the Wentzville Patch. —Ed.) With only one full week remaining in the 2012 legislative session, the Senate is focused on giving its approval to quality bills. The Senate approved its version of a measure that would help fund veterans’ homes and honor their service to our country, among other priorities. Looking out for the well-being of our veterans is essential, and I’m proud to endorse measures that support our troops. These men and women have sacrificed so much for our safety and freedom, and when they reach their golden years, it’s our job to take care of them …

Claire McCaskill Takes Campaign Finance Fight To Colbert; John Brunner Picks Up Tea Party Support

This edition of Political Potpourri has campaign machinations on both sides of the race to be Missouri's next U.S. Senator.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) made an appearance this week on The Colbert Report, a popular satirical news show on Comedy Central. The first-term senator spent time on the show talking about her latest ad, which hones on third-party organizations that have been running ads against her. “Stephen, as he always does, used his character to point out the absurd loopholes in federal election law that allow corporations and special interests to anonymously influence the political system. I applaud the work he and his show do to educate America about 501(c)(4) organizations and secret money,” McCaskill said in a letter to supporters. “But, until the system is fixed, secret money will continue to flow into Missouri and attack me. As I said, if…
