Battle of Wentzville Re-enacts a Piece of Wentzville History

The original Battle of Wentzville happened on July 15, 1861.

On July 15, 1861, the Civil War came to Wentzville.

On that date, four companies of the 2nd Missouri Infantry and two companies of the 8th Missouri Infantry were attacked on a train about three miles west of the city.

The soldiers had stopped in Wentzville for dinner, and after the attack, they returned to the Wentzville Hotel for medical treatment for the wounded.

The attackers were never found.

The Battle of Wentzville re-enactment is held every two years, and this year it was held in conjunction with the Wabash Days festival.

Although the re-enactment couldn't replicate the details of the original skirmish, it brought Civil War battlefield drama to life for those who attended.
