Wentzville's Response to Letter Carriers' Food Drive Tops Last Year's Effort

The National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected more than 70 millions pounds of food last year.

Letter carriers all over the county did more than deliver your mail on Saturday. They also collected food donations along their routes.

Did you help out by putting some food items in the blue plastic bag the letter carriers left in your mailbox earlier last week? Then you helped our Wentzville-area carriers top last year's food drive total!

The event, which the United States Postal Service calls "the nation’s largest single-day food drive" combined the efforts of 175,000 letter carriers nation-wide. Donations are given to local food banks, soup kitchens and shelters and other hunger-relief organizations.

“With more than 50 million Americans living at risk of hunger, food banks across the country continue to experience record demand for emergency food assistance," said Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe in a USPS press release. "

Together, we are helping to address this demand and making a difference in the lives of millions of Americans in communities throughout the nation.”

According to ABC News, last year's drive collected more than 70 million pounds of food for distribution to food banks.
