Re-Enactors Participate in the Battle of Wentzville

The "Battle of Wentzville" took place under steaming conditions Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend Wentzville hosted an event 150 years in the making — the reenactment of the Battle of Wentzville.

After six Union companies of Missouri infantry left St. Louis for Mexico, MO on July 15 they came under fire from Confederate bushwackers three miles west of .

When the bushwackers could not be found, the Union soldiers returned to Wentzville to treat their wounded and continued their journey the next morning. The Confederates attacked the train again but were defeated and the Union soldiers continued on to Mexico to join forces with Col. Franz Sigel.

This battle, one of many in Missouri during the Civil War, is reinacted annually and draws crowds in the hundreds.
