The WASSI-Wentzville Area Senior Services, Inc. had its annual meeting to elect  its officers on June 17, 2013. Elected were Leon Tow-President, Jessica Brannan-Vice President, Terri Harrell-Treasurer, Mary Tow-Secretary. Also elected were Board Members Carol Rabbitt, Judy Hinkle, and John Zepaltas.

The mission of WASSI is to ensure seniors in the Wentzville area receive the best in services, programs and facilities. Its goals are 1) Ensure that Wentzville Area seniors have vibrant Senior Center.  A  center that provides nutritious meals and offers quality health, recreational and educational activities. 2) Develop innovative programs and services that address the diverse interests and needs of the seniors in the Wentzville Area. 3) Serve as a liaison with our City Government to address the needs of seniors and to continually improve the quality of senior living in the Wentzville Area. 4) Provide communication through a website and newsletters about upcoming events, senior issues and opportunities.

On Friday June 17, 2013 WASSI  held  its Senior Health Fair at the Wentzville Community Center. The Fair had 35 vendors and almost 100 attendees. Vendors provided valuable information regarding senior services, residential housing, financial and legal services, transportation alternatives, health care providers, medical providers and services and much more. The attendees were provided snacks and beverages while visiting with the vendors.

A lunch was provided with drinks and desserts followed by an afternoon of fun and games with prizes. A great time was had by all who attended. See more pictures at the WASSI website.

The attendees were given a survey to complete on  what amenities were important to them at the  new Senior Center. The items listed as most important to respondees were: large space for Big events, full kitchen were meals can be prepared, serving kitchen with meals warmed served, fitness room, and small room for meetings. Next in importance were computer room, craft room, library, theater, dance floor, and outdoor patio. This gives WASSI a good idea as to what to include in the building’s plan.

The WASSI Board,  led by President Leon Tow, participated in the WABASH DAYS parade with red truck displaying the WASSI banner. Board members walked with the banner truck handing out candy to the young folks along the parade route.Remaining events for this year include its Annual Senior Fall Fun Day on Oct. 18,2013. There will be food, apple pie bake off, ice cream social, entertainment, games including pig races, scarecrow bean toss, bingo and more with prizes and goody bags.WASSI will also be participating in the St. Peters Senior Health Fair on Nov. 9, 2013 and is looking at participating in the Wentzville Holiday Lights festival at Rotary Park at the beginning of December.
