Wentzville's Green Lantern Senior Center Celebrating 40 Years

The City of Wentzville purchased the building in 1973.

Wentzville Area Senior Services (WASSI) is celebrating Green Lantern Senior Center's 40th anniversary on Friday, June 14.

The anniversary celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with a presentation by city officials, with entertainment and a picnic lunch to follow.

According to the organization's website, Green Lantern opened in 1973 when the city purchased the building from the school district.

The building dates to the 1800s, and was once a school. Over the years, the city has added a parking lot, solar heating and playground.

The senior center offers daily lunches, as well as live music, quilting, Wii games and other activities. A Meals on Wheels program operates from the building as does a crafting group, making items to help with fundraising.
