The St. Charles City-County Library District welcomes Jewell Parker Rhodes to the Corporate Parkway Library on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

In her children's book "Ninth Ward," Jewell shares the experience of 12-year old Lanesha and her caretaker Mama Ya-Ya during Hurricane Katrina. This celebration of resilience, love, family and friendship earned the 2010 awards for Coretta Scott King Honor Author and Parents Choice Foundation Gold, the Al Roker Today Show Book Club selection, School Library Journal Best Books of 2010 selection and was named to the 2011 International Reading Association Notable Books for Global Society.

The author also teaches creative writing at Arizona State University and travels internationally teaching middle, high-school and college age students in global settings such as Singapore, China and Wales.
