Think Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Events in St. Charles and Beyond
From galas to walks to shopping, here's how you can participate, pledge support and donate to the cause in St. Charles.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and whether you love to shop, attend events, walk or run, there are tons of different ways to support the cause. Check out the list below of opportunities to go pink in St. Charles and beyond:
Sista Strut: 8 a.m. rally, 10 a.m. 3k walk, Oct. 6 at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park. Cost is $25 and proceeds benefit the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center, The Black Women Breast Cancer Survivors Project, and The Breakfast Club, an African American breast cancer support group. Learn more here.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer: 8 a.m. Oct. 27, Forest Park/Upper Muny Parking Lot. This American Cancer Society event does not have a registration fee or a minimum amount to raise to participate, but walkers are encouraged to raise at least $100. Learn more here.

Celebrate Spot: 8 a.m. check in, 9 a.m. walk, Oct. 14 in the Upper Muny Parking lot in Forest Park. Celebrate Spot is a walk for dogs and their people benefitting the Young Women's Breast Cancer Program at Siteman Cancer Center. Registrants can participate in a 1 mile or a 5K walk. Learn more here.
4th Annual Spare Nothing for the Cure: 12-2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Oct. 28, Brunswick Zone in Chesterfield, MO, or Flamingo Bowl in Downtown St. Louis. This family-friendly bowling event benefits breast cancer research and programs funded by St. Louis affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The entry fee is $25 per bowler or $150 per team of six bowlers. Each registration includes two hours of unlimited bowling, shoe rental and an official event T-shirt. Register here.

Get Involved: The Karen Weidinger Foundation is a nonprofit located in St. Charles that brings breast cancer awareness to the community. Learn more about upcoming ways to help here.
Wear Pink: SSM Health Care campuses in St. Louis will have a photo booth set up in October. Everyone is encouraged to show off pink by wearing outfits and props. Participants will receive a printout of their photos. Friday, October 12 – SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, Cafeteria – 11:30am to 1:30pm and 10pm to 12 a.m.; SSM St. Joseph Health Center – Wentzville, Lobby – 11:30am to 1:30pm and 10pm to 12a.m. Fight like a girl t-shirts are also for sale at hospital gift shops.
There are even more ways to spread breast cancer awareness this month by supporting national organizations that are fighting for a cure.
Research centers like Susan G. Komen for the Cure are selling pink ribbon merchandise and it’s a twofer — retail therapy and donating to a cause that affects millions.
You can also support breast cancer research by affixing a special stamp to your mail. The U.S. Postal Service has been selling a stamp commemorating breast cancer awareness for the past 15 years. The agency has raised $75 million so far for research programs at the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
The American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is organized nationwide and so far more than 8 million people have walked for this cause and raised about $460 million.
Walks are the most popular events held to spread awareness. Sista Strut in St.Louis, MO, aims to increase awareness among people of color through their annual 3K walk.
