Five Vintage Trunks at Fireside Treasures

On the fifth day of Christmas, Downtown Wentzville has for me: five vintage trunks.

Fireside Treasures is one of those shops where you don't generally go looking for something specific; you just go and find yourself delighted and surprised by the variety of antiques and collectibles they have to offer.

On the day Patch visited, we saw a set of old Tarzan novels, a spinning wheel, a set of plates with painted portraits and a glass candy container in the shape of an old candlestick telephone.

But the exception to the rule about finding something specific might be the shop's collection of chests and trunks. Fireside Treasures is well known for always having a supply of fascinating old trunks.

Fireside's co-owner, Mindy Weeks, pointed out five of the most interesting trunks to Patch: a World War I military chest, a tool chest with a carved sword on the outside, a domed-lid trunk, a spool chest and an immigrant's trunk with the original owner's name still visible on the front. The prices range from $235 to $595.

"A lot of people are using them for coffee tables now," Weeks said.

The shop is known for its furniture but also carries vintage jewelry, old books, and "a little bit of everything."

Fireside also has a special offer for Patch readers. Just mention Patch's 12 Days of Christmas, and you'll get 10% of the price of any item.
