Perron Is Well Deserving of Third NHL Star of the Week

Perron's passion and determination to get better at the game is something that will push him to continue to get better and better as an NHL player.

This week, David Perron was given the third star of the week by the NHL.

This weekly award is given to the three players that the NHL finds most deserving of the award. It's safe to say that there was little doubt of whether or not Perron deserved it. In his last four games, Perron has scored six goals—not too shabby for the Quebec-native, who in my opinion is one of the most passionate players in the NHL.

It's easy to see why Perron has had so much success in the NHL. It hasn't just been since his return from a concussion, but in his young career so far with the Blues. Perron eats, sleeps and breathes the game of hockey. Those who follow him on Twitter don't just see him updating what he ate for dinner, but more often then not, it's on a topic regarding something hockey oriented such as his new skates or a curve on his stick.

What is rare with Perron that you don't often see with players is that he would most likely play in the NHL for practically peanuts if given the opportunity. His passion doesn't lay in the big contracts or the superstardom—it's in respect of the hockey tradition.

This season, Perron has notched 10 goals and 15 helpers (assists for those playing at home), and that's just in 31 games played. That's just short of a point a game. He has gotten better and better with age and there's no doubt he has some of the sickest hands in the game of hockey.

Perron brings a spark to the Blues much like T.J. Oshie does, where he can make somethig out of nothing. One of his most memorable goals came in the 2009 season against the New York Islanders when he did a curl and drag move to beat Islanders goalie Dwayne Roloson. It was no doubt one of the top goals of the year.

It's easy to see how much better of a team the Blues are with Perron on the ice. His creativity with the puck, and his passion for the game makes him not only one of the top players for the St. Louis Blues, but one of the most exciting players to watch in the NHL. He may not get as much recognition as guys like Crosby, Ovechkin or Stamkos, and may not put up the point totals they do, but his passion and determination to get better at the game is something that will push him to continue to get better and better as an NHL player.

If you haven't gotten a chance to get to know @DP_57 (that's Perron's Twitter handle) then start following, and you will see his desire for the game of hockey. On top of that, just watch a Blues' game and you will see how special of a player David Perron is.
