Debate on Sugary Drinks Fights On!

Do you drink more than 16oz sodas at one time? Maybe not anymore!

There is quite the controversy on a new proposal by New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, who is trying to limit the size of sugary drinks to 16oz. While many believe it is up to the individual to make that choice, one thing I know as health care provider, is that consuming large amounts of these sugary sodas can do serious damage to your teeth! One of the most common replies we get when discussing cavity issues with patients is a high soda intake. While it certainly is not the only cause of teeth decay, it's a major factor. The soda companies believe its part of a healthy diet, and calories are calories (read the interview with the President of Coca-Cola below.)

I won't say I think its up to the government to regulate how much we drink, but I think everyone should be aware that the choices they make might have some real consequences to the health of their teeth, as well as their children's teeth!
