5 Mile Trail Run Benefits Galloping For Girls

Locals run through five miles of winding trails, proceeds benefit charitable horse riding organization.

On Sunday, about 40 locals came to Broemmelsiek Park for a five mile run called "Hit the Trail."

Participants paid anywhere from $15 to $35 to run through the thick trees and tall grass prairie at the park. This was the first time Broemmelsiek Park has hosted this event.

Proceeds for the run went to Galloping for Girls, a local organization that helps teen girls learn life lessons through riding and caring for horses.

According to Galloping for Girls founder Kylin Meyer, girls who sign up for the program only pay about $100 for riding lessons and other materials. The organization pays for the rest of the cost.

Meyer said the event raised more than $5,000 for Galloping for Girls.
