UPDATE: Wind, Hail Cause Damage in Wentzville

Huge jagged hailstones fell for a short time in the day's second round of storms.

UPDATE: High winds in the day's second round of storms left a mark on Wentzville and Lake Saint Louis.

Both cities experienced tree damage.

On East Pearce Boulevard, wind broke a telephone pole at its base, leaving it tilted to one side and dropping lines dangerously near the streets. Officers were routing traffic around the lines until the phone company could arrive.

Residents have been sharing their stories on the Wentzville Facebook page. One resident reported that "some of the hail off of Peine road was just shy of softball sized hail. We, along with many of our neighbors have siding, roof, and car damage."

Patch measured one hailstone at three inches in diameter. The sound of the hailstones on a metal barn roof sounded "like someone was taking swings at it with a baseball bat," said one resident.

Luckily the rain of monster hail didn't last long.

An earlier wave of storms slammed downtown St. Louis, with more than 100 injuries and a death caused by a tent that collapsed in strong winds, said KSDK.com.
