Dierbergs Seeking Permit to Add Outside BBQ Smoker

The Board of Aldermen will vote on a resolution Wednesday night to permit the addition to the Dierberg's parking lot.

The Dierberg's in St Peters' 79 Crossing Shopping Center has one. So does the Dierberg's in the Bogey Hills Shopping Center in St. Charles. If the board of aldermen approve, the could have one, too.

What do they have in St. Peters and St. Charles that we don't have yet? A BBQ Smoker in the parking lot. The Board of Aldermen will consider the addition to Dierberg's at their regular meeting June 13.

In a letter to Community Development Director Doug Forbeck, Dierberg's Director of Real Estate Brent C. Beumer said, "We smoke ribs, chicken, beef brisket, port, turkey and seafood. The product is excellent and the sales response from our customers has been extremely enthusiastic."

Beumer explained in his letter that food is not sold at the smoker location in the parking lot. The food is carried to the smoker for cooking and is then returned inside for display and sale.

Operating the smoker will add an additional 40-50 hours of employment, Beumer said, and the store will follow all County Health Department rules and regulations. The smoker will be fenced from the public and the smoke produced will be minimal.
