Excessive Heat Warning Issued for Wentzville

The heat is expected to stick around until Saturday.

An excessive heat warning issued for the Wentzville area by the National Weather Service is scheduled to remain in place until this weekend.

According to the NWS, the dangerous heat wave will continue this week, with afternoon and early evening heat index values ranging from 105 to 115.

An excessive heat warning is issued within 12 hours of the onset of the following criteria: heat index of at least 105°F for more than 3 hours per day for two consecutive days, or heat index more than 115°F for any period of time.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

  • Elderly people (65 years and older), infants and children and people with chronic medical conditions are more prone to heat stress.

  • Air-conditioning is the number one protective factor against heat-related illness and death. During conditions of extreme heat, spend time in locations with air-conditioning such as shopping malls, public libraries, or public health sponsored heat-relief shelters in your area.

  • Get informed. Listen to local news and weather channels or contact your local public health department during extreme heat conditions for health and safety updates

  • Drink cool, nonalcoholic beverages and increase your fluid intake, regardless of your activity level.

  • Cooling Shelters

    In St. Charles County, area senior centers are set up as cooling centers. They will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The centers will have air conditioning and cold water.
