Highway Z Speed Limit Going Down

MoDOT to put up new signs this week.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will lower the speed limit from 50 to 45 on a mile and a half of Route Z in St. Charles County near .

MoDOT recently evaluated traffic speeds on the route. The department found that drivers were traveling slower between Interstate 70 and Perry Cate than on the remaining portion of the roadway. The speed limit reduction complements an ordinance recently passed by Wentzville, lowering the speed limit on the mile and a half section of Route Z.

“This section of Wentzville has grown extensively,” said Jim Gremaud, St. Charles County area engineer. “We have seen an increase in traffic along that portion of Route Z and expect to see even more due to Wentzville’s future expansion of Interstate Drive and the growth projected around Interstate 70. That increased traffic and potential additional entrances on Route Z required a lower speed limit.”

Crews will start putting new signs along the corridor starting March 7. Installation should take about a week. The new speed limits will go into effect after the new signs are installed and uncovered.

As a resident of wentzville in the Whisper Creek Sub. I think that Hwy. Z should be re-done from I-70 to Hwy. N. It needs to be at least a three lane road or better yet four lanes in this area. When we moved here we might pass one or two cars going to town and back but now it has to be at least one hundred. Something the city should think about for the safty of all who live out here.
