LSL Mothers Club Offers a Night at the Races

The fundraiser, now in its second year, benefits the club and the community.

And they're off!

The LSL Mothers Club is holding its second annual Nite at the Races fundraiser at 6 p.m. April 30 at the Lake Saint Louis Community Association Clubhouse.

The event is open to the public. Participants watch horse races shown on a big-screen television and bet with "funny money" provided at the event.

"You bet. Then we play the race, and you pray your horse wins," said Heather Kemper-Hussey, a member of the club.

Some of the prizes include: flying lessons, restaurant gift certificates, Cardinals' game tickets, Rascals game tickets and Six Flags tickets. All revenue raised at the event goes back into the community to help pay for community events, such as and Halloween activities. Funds also help a variety of local clubs and purchase equipment for city parks.

Tickets are available at a discount prior to the event. "If you were there last year, you know we came very close to selling out, and we plan on doing that this year. So get your tickets early," Kemper-Hussey said.

An addition, this year there will be a Kentucky Derby Hat contest. "Ladies, it is time to start thinking of a hat that would win you that honor," Kemper-Hussey said.

Please see the event flyer for all the details. Tickets can be purchased from Marsha at 636-561-1807.

The Lake Saint Louis Mothers Club started in 1976, adopting its current name in 2002. Meetings are  held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the LSLCA Clubhouse Ballroom. The club is actively involved in the community, and provides a place for mothers to interact as well as a Friday playgroup for the children.

The Mothers Club has three objectives:

  • Provide support, education, and social opportunities.
  • Sponsor organized activities for children in the community.
  • Raise and donate funds to support family-centered community projects.

In the past, the Mothers Club has donated funds for dugouts at Founders Park, infant changing tables in the CA Club House, picnic tables and park benches at Boulevard Park, a bookcase at Corporate Parkway Library. The club has also helped fund the Adopt a Family Christmas campaign, Holt and Timberland High School Grad Night celebrations, the Lake Saint Louis High School Graduating Senior Scholarship, the junior tennis and golf tournaments, Lake Saint Louis Ambassador's Fireworks Fund, Parents as Teachers and Zachary's Playground.
