MoDOT to Raise Speed on Highway 40

From Highway K to Interstate 70.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will raise the speed limit on a section of Route 40/61 in St. Charles County from 60 to 65 mph.

The department will raise the limit on the route from Route K to Interstate 70, to more closely match speed limits on Interstate 70 in St. Charles County.

Crews will start putting new signs along the corridor starting Thursday, March 24. The new speed limit will go into effect after the signs are installed and uncovered, which could be as early as Friday evening, March 25.

“We have seen an increase in speeds along this section of roadway, primarily due to the improvements made to Route 40/61 as the department upgraded the corridor  in St. Charles County to interstate status,” said Jim Gremaud, St. Charles County area engineer. “Raising the speed limit helps us maintain the continuity of our interstate system, and prepares the way for an expected approval to officially redesignate the portion of Route 40/61 between Interstate 270 in St. Louis and I-70 in St. Charles as Interstate 64.”
