O'Fallon Boy Participates in Lake Saint Louis Triathlon

Zach Blakemore suffers from a rare neurological disease that confines him to an electric wheelchair. His grandparents teamed up to help him race in a triathlon on Saturday.

Over the weekend, a local boy had the opportunity to race along side his family in a triathlon.

Zach Blakemore suffers from a rare neurological disease that confines him to an electric wheelchair. He has watched his mother and grandfather race in the Lake Saint Louis triathlons for years and every year he asks, "When can I race?"

This was his year.

Zach's grandfather, Brian Mackay, formed a team to be Zach's legs, allowing Zach to accomplish his dream of racing.

Brian used a specialized bike trailer for the 26 mile bike race. Zachary's mother, , pushed the jogging stroller for the six-mile run. His grandmother, Joan Mackay, volunteered to swim with Zach.
