Parade of Boats: Instructions for Participants and Onlookers

This Lake Saint Louis Memorial Day tradition hits the waves at 2 p.m. Monday.

The Lake Saint Louis Pontooneers have issued the following instructions for boaters participating in the Memorial Day Parade of Boats, and for family and friends who will be watching from Windjammer Pointe.

Boat decorating is optional, but U.S. flags are encouraged.

All registered boats are encouraged to join the parade that will form at the Rue Grand Marina (Main Marina) on Lake Saint Louis. At 2 p.m. the Lake Saint Louis Water Patrol Boat, followed by the VFW pontoon boat, will lead two side-by-side lines of boats toward Highway 40. Yes, that is right--two lines.  The line closest to land, just outside the no-wake buoys, will be led by the LSL Fire Protection District’s red runabout boat, which will be followed by the Joan and John Bloecher’s pontoon boat.

When passing in review at Windjammer Pointe, boats should form a single line.  The Water Patrol line, farthest from shore, will go first followed by the Fire Protection line that will initially head toward the big dam to provide necessary separation and then join the end of the other line. After passing the Pavilion, stay in the area for the Blessing.

The Rev. Bob Thompson, Pastor-Emeritus at the First Baptist Church, will provide the blessing for a safe boating season. So that boaters will know the sequence of events at Windjammer Pointe, they are as follows:

  • Blessing start: short siren bursts from bullhorn and man raising arms by Pavilion.
  • The Blessing: man lowers arms and head.
  • After the Blessing: long siren sound indicating it is time for you to sound your boat horn.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the beauty of the parade and receive the Blessing by observing the boats from Windjammer Pointe. A big sign will be at the entrance, which is located between the SSM St. Joseph Hospital West and First Bank. The car gate will be open.
