Patch Picks: Five Great Memorial Day Activities

From honoring our troops to chowing down on BBQ.

Memorial Day serves two purposes: One, to honor and commemorate those who have served our country and fought for our freedom. Two, to gleefully eat BBQ and potato salad as we head into summer officially.

As both are definitely worthwhile endeavors, this week Patch brings you activities to celebrate both.

  • Lake Saint Louis Memorial Day Ceremony - Held at Veteran's Park, the ceremony will start at 11am. Mayor Mike Potter will speak, as well as Col. Sean Fagan, Commander of the North Central Region of the U.S. Air Force/Civil Air Patrol. 
  • - Head up to the Rue Grand Marina at 2pm, where boats will be led to Windjammer Pointe by the Lake Saint Louis Water Patrol to receive a blessing for a safe boating season.
  • Renaissance Fair - If you're looking for a different way to spend the long weekend, head to Wentzville for a travel through time, to a 16th century French village, complete with jousting knights and giant turkey legs.
  • Memorial Day Picnic - Hosted in St. Charles by the St. Charles Catholic school, bring your lawn chairs, food and drink for a relaxing day at Swiss Park - charcoal and fun games will be provided.
  • Rib America Festival - If you feel like heading into the city for some great BBQ by award-winning teams, plus you like live music, this festival is for you. Held at Soldier's Memorial in St. Louis May 27 - May 30.
