Sneak Peek: Spencer Road Library Prepares for Grand Opening

After months of construction, doors will open March 21 on the newest branch of the St. Charles City-County Library District.

While nowhere near as busy it expects to be on March 21, the Library was a hive of activity on Monday morning. 

Just a little more than a week until doors open to the public for the first time, workers at the newest library in the St. Charles City-County Library District were putting the finishing touches on things around the building. Some shelves still need to be stocked, permanent door numbers need to be hung and other small details need to be finalized before the . The workers can't wait. 

A project that started in 2010 is nearly ready for the public. The is long gone Before the doors open, however, Patch was able to get a sneak peek inside the newest library.

Here are some facts about the Spencer Road Branch:

  • The library is already paid for. The project was completed through general obligation funds of the Library District, capital project funds and reserves. 
  • Cost of the library is below national average. The Spencer Road Branch cost $112.81 per square foot. According to the RSMeans Building Construction Cost Data, the national average is $159.
  • After the in O'Fallon and the in St. Charles, the Spencer Road Branch is the third regional branch to get a makeover.
