Spencer Road Library Employees Begin Move To New Building

Library employees move books on to the new shelves this week.

employees moved the first set of books into the new building Monday.

At Monday night’s St. Charles County Library Board of Trustees meeting, Spencer Branch Manager Laurie St. Laurent said almost all of the children’s books have been placed on the shelves in the new library.

Employees will be placing adult fiction books on the shelves Tuesday.

St. Laurent said it should take branch employees about 10 to 12 days to move everything.

Even though employees are starting to move books on to the shelves, the old building still needs to be demolished and made into a parking lot before the grand opening.

St. Laurent said the building will have plenty of spaces for people to meet, giving it a community center feel.

The new library will have 12 meeting rooms, some of which will have projectors and some will have small kitchenettes where people can eat their lunches. The community commons area will also have 400 chairs for theatre seating, and 250 chairs for round tables.

A fountain and mantle piece for the fireplace are to be finished sometime this week, according to St. Laurent

“We are so excited to get ready for the citizens to come back into the library. We’re anxious to have them enjoy the facilities and make use of all of the features,” St. Laurent said.
