Did you check out today's 6 a.m. story yet? is this Saturday in Boulevard Park. Besides offering great family fun like a 5K run, fun walk and kickball tournament, the festival's purpose is a serious one. The Katee Hessler Foundation serves the youth of our community and helps to raise awareness of violence and drugs.

I had the pleasure of meeting Debbee Hessler back in 1996, the year we moved to the Josephville area. I enrolled my son in Debbee's preschool. I saw her from time to time after my son "graduated," and my heart ached for her and her family when they lost Katee.

You see grief expressed in so many ways, but it's always inspiring when that energy is channeled into a something that's positive. Stop by the festival Saturday—there are activities for the kids, and food and live music.

Today in history, courtesy of History.com: Did you think Orson Welles' War of the Worlds was the first big alien hoax? In 1835, The New York Sun published a series of articles about life on the moon, which included unicorns and bat-wing humanoids. The pieces were entended as satire, but even respected scientists took them seriously—until The Sun revealed that it was a hoax.
