The Second Cup: August 26 Edition

The air was crisp and clean this morning, and I had to reflect on how perfect that was for the start of high school football season.

You may have noticed that we've been a bit sports-heavy the last few days: We brought you the , the , and a .

After the game tonight, you'll get a quick report of the score, and we'll recap the game in full on Saturday.

And not to leave out the other great prep sports, you'll be seeing a preview of Timberland softball, and next week we'll bring you a volleyball preview.

I hope every high school student takes the time to be somehow involved with sports, whether it's playing in the sport, marching in the band, joining the cheer or pep squad or just attending the games and cheering from the stands. For me, and for a lot of people, that involvement created some of our best, and most cherished memories of high school.

Today in history, courtesy of History.com: Following our sports theme today, on this day in history in 1939, the very first Major League baseball game was broadcast on television. The Cincinnati Reds played against the Brooklyn Dodgers and though only two cameras covered the games, the new idea to televise baseball was a—pardon the pun—hit.
