Wasn't it a beautiful day yesterday? I was rather looking forward to some storms and rain, but I'll be happy with the lower temperatures.

For our advice around the garden, Peggy Bahrmasel will tell us about shady wooded gardens. Sounds like a good idea in the kind of weather we've been having this summer.

We're a little late bringing you the Big Brothers Big Sisters column that we usually run on Sundays. This is a very worthwhile organization and its volunteers make a big difference in the lives of the children they mentor. Consider becoming a part of it!

Associate editor Joe Scott will be bringing us an update from the County Council. Seems they're still looking at issues with the smoking ban. Watch for Joe's update.

Today in History, courtesy of History.com: In 1969, Actress Sharon Tate was murdered. The pregnant wife of producer Roman Polanski was not targeted, but happened to be at the home where cult leader Charles Manson sent a band of his followers to begin a killing spree. Manson would be convicted of the Tate murder, among many others.
