The Second Cup: July 12 Edition

You've had your first cup of coffee; now relax with the second and find out what's up for the day.

Good morning, Lake Saint Louis.

Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men, they say. Wait, who says? Turns out it was Robert Burns, in his poem "To a Mouse:"

The best-laid schemes o' mice an 'men
Gang aft agley,
An'lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

My best-laid plans didn't work out yesterday—busy day, whew! So today you'll be seeing two stories that I promised you yesterday.

This morning, we'll post the "Who's Hiring" column. Then, in the afternoon, we'll post Part 3 of the Committee of Peers article.

In addition, I'll have a report from the Architectural Review Board, and Peggy Bahrmasel's weekly Advice Around the Garden.

Our intrepid associate editor, Joe Scott, attended the St. Charles County Council meeting last night and we'll expect to hear from him today about a vote to make ephedrine/pseudoephedrine available only by prescription.

Let's hope today doesn't "gang aft agley!"

Today in history, courtesy of the ever-helpful people at History.com: In 1984, Walter Mondale chose Geraldine Ferraro, a New York Congresswoman, as his running mate. Mondale lost the election to George Bush. Mondale carried only one state, his home state of Minnesota.
