The Second Cup: July 28 Edition

You've had your first cup of coffee; now relax with the second and find out what's up in Lake Saint Louis today.

Good morning, Lake Saint Louis!

I had a great time at the St. Charles County Fair last night. I was covering the Little Miss/Little Mister competition and I learned something. Kids don't sweat. (You'd think I would know that, having three of my own.) Even with fans running, it was HOT, but most of the kids were smiling and happy. With not a bead of sweat on their brows, unlike most of standing around the stage with our cameras.

I'll have a photo gallery from the competition, and hopefully some sounds and sights video.

Today is Get Out day, so if you've already been to the Fair, or if it's not your cup of tea, we'll have plenty of suggestions to keep you busy this weekend.

Our coverage this past week of the County Council's vote to make ephedrine/pseudoephedrine products prescription-only has generated a lot of comments. O'Fallon editor Jordan Lanham has gathered these up for us. Take a look and add your own!

On my way to the fair, I stopped by Boulevard Park. Wow, they've made some progress on the retention basin/rain garden project! I snapped a few pictures. It's interesting to see what goes in to this kind of project.

Today in history, thanks to History.com: In 1868, the 14th amendment was ratified, granting citizenship to African-Americans.
