The Second Cup: September 21 Edition

You've had your first cup of coffee; now relax with the second and find out what's up for the day in Lake Saint Louis.

Good morning, Lake Saint Louis!

Today, and for the next few days, I'm going to be on vacation. Associate Editor Joe Scott will be filling in for me while I'm gone.

Michelle Blodget's Food 101 column will be discussing truffles. I'm a big fan of fungus. I'd be so tempted to try them, but a journalist's salary runs more toward the burger-and-fries end of the culinary spectrum. Still, sounds decadently yummy!

Today in history, courtesy of History.com: In 1780, an American general met with a British major to discuss handing over West Point to the British. The general was to receive a large sum of money and a high position in the British army but his plot failed, and his name became known to history as another word for "traitor." The general? Benedict Arnold.
