  • The story of a double shooting in Wentzville's Stone Ridge Canyon Subdivision unfolded Saturday evening while neighbors watched in disbelief. A 911 call to police at 3:36 about a shooting on Niagra Drive led to a lockdown of the neighborhood until a SWAT team was able to determine that the shooter was dead. A juvenile male was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Police released the name of the deceased, Laurie Anderson, later in the evening. On Sunday morning, Wentzville Police issued a press release confirming that Laurie Anderson was the mother of the juvenile male and that she shot him before killing herself. Police also confirmed that the boy was in stable condition.

  • A teacher is being accused of sexually touching a 10-year-old student during a home school session in Lake Saint Louis. Joseph T. Maddock, charged Monday in St. Charles County with first-degree statutory sodomy, taught at several private and public schools in the St. Louis County and St. Charles County since 2001.

  • It all started earlier this year when a local businessman was told that he could not have a Statue of Liberty character standing on the sidewalk to promote his business on Wentzville Parkway. Now the issue of "living signs," banners, balloons, window paint and other temporary advertising methods will go before the Wentzville Board of Aldermen as an amendment, setting new guidelines for promotional and temporary signage.

Renaissance Faire Balks at New Contract with City

  • On Wednesday, May 8, the Wentzville Board of Aldermen will be considering a new contract with Renaissance St. Louis (R.S.L.), the parent company of the St. Louis Renaissance Faire. However, R.S.L. officers objected to provisions in the new contract, a city source told Patch. The officers insist that the city honor the present contract, dated June 2005. The sticking point of the new contract is a condition that the Faire must hire overnight security if overnight camping is to be allowed on the site.

Wentzville Man Dead After 12-Story Fall in Dallas Hotel

  • A Wentzville man died after a 12-story fall at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Dallas Wednesday morning, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Craig McKinnon Berry, 37, was staying at the hotel for a business conference when his body was found by a security guard at about 2 a.m. in the atrium lobby after an employee reported hearing a loud thud.
