Wentzville Commemorates Tenth Anniversary of 9/11

Local emergency officials read off the names of each service man and woman who died in the attacks.

residents lined the Meyer Road near to remember those who lost their lives in the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001.

Wentzville emergency officials, including Chief Robert Noonan, read a seperate prayer for each group of first responders who died as a result of 9/11.

After prayers, the crowd stood in silent reverence as emergency officials read off all of the names of the fallen EMS, fire, police and other responders at ground zero.

Chief Randy Bornhop said more than 416 emergency responders lost their lives because of the attacks.

A large silver bell was tolled in honor of the dead, followed by a 21 gun salute.

Bornhop said he was proud of how many people showed up for the event.

"It is a somber anniversary, but I think it does everybody good to participate in the event and remember," Bornhop said.

The band played at the event.
