2nd Annual Cruisin' 4 Crider
This Winter has been harsh and we’re itching to hit the open
road and ride. If you are too, Crider Health Center offers you the
perfect opportunity to get your knees in the breeze, all while supporting a
GREAT CAUSE! Please make plans to join Crider Health Center on Saturday,
May 17, 2014 at the 2nd Annual Cruisin’ 4 Crider
event. Cruisin’ 4 Crider is an annual awareness ride aimed at STOPPING
STIGMA IN ITS TRACKS!
Why are we riding? Because adults and
children with mental illness face the stigma of societal labels every day of
their lives. This stigma can be so debilitating that it keeps a person
with mental illness from seeking the help they need to live fuller, more
productive and healthier lives. The first thing to understand is that
mental illness does not discriminate. 1 in 4 US adults will be affected
by mental illness at some point in their lives. Mental illness doesn’t
just affect the poor or the uneducated. It simply doesn’t care about
race, religion, societal/financial standing, age, or your level of education.
Why are we reaching out to bikers?
Because bikers have long endured the hurtful and untrue labels placed on them
by society. The only difference is that bikers have succeeded at
softening their image over the years. Unfortunately, those with mental
illness have not been as successful at changing the minds of a society that
judges them based on their lack of understanding. The recent
sensationalized news stories being replayed over and over again in our media
doesn’t help either. We are trying to let society know that mental illness
is not unlike any other physical illness, such as heart disease and
diabetes. Mental illness is treatable.

On Saturday, May 17, 2014, you have the
opportunity to let society know that labeling someone for a mental illness is
hurtful. You can also let those who are still living in the shadows of
their illness know that it is safe for them to step out of the shadows and into
healthier lives.
Please make plans to join us as we ride together, united in
our message of treating all illnesses (physical and mental) with the same
respect.
