"Domestic Patriots-Women of Valor" theme of the DAR September Meeting.

Domestic
Patriots-Women of Valor”
, a tableau about the women who contributed to the
Revolutionary War will be presented at the September 21 meeting of the Caroline
Close Stuart Chapter, NSDAR.  Also,
Chapter members will recognize Constitution Week by conducting a “Bell Ringing”
at the meeting in celebration of our Constitution.

This celebration of the Constitution was
started by the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1955, DAR petitioned
Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the
observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the US
Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight D.
Eisenhower.

From
the earliest days to modern times, women have played a vital role in the
history of America. During the American Revolution, women helped change the
course of the war by their very acts and deeds.
A tableau presented by members of the Chapter will highlight eight women
from the Revolution who helped shape American including; Penelope Barker, Mary
Ball Washington, Sybil Luddington and Sarah Franklin Bache.

Chaplain, Marcy Hosty will administer the
Oath of Membership to our newest members Helen Bruno, Bonnie Cole, Teresa Cole,
Sarah Davis, Amy Godwin, Lynda Gorline, Carol Hemmersmeier, Eleanor Kimmel,
Nancy Milliken, Ruth Reece, Elizabeth Rudd and Erin Weyerich.

The
DAR was founded on Oct. 11, 1890, and incorporated in 1896 by an Act of
Congress. The group's mission is to promote historic preservation, education
and patriotism. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or
ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American
Revolution is eligible, she added.

Interest
in a Lake St. Louis chapter is strong, Wisner said. She added 87 members have joined
the chapter, and 10 more applications are waiting at the National office to be
approved. "We have been amazed at the responses from women who are excited
to join a chapter in their own community."

Interested
women who would like to attend the September meeting must make reservation for
the lunch portion of the meeting which costs $18.  For more information about the DAR or to make
reservations contact Regent, Karen Wisner at 314-772-9486. You
