Lake Saint Louis Alderman Highlights

Highlights of July 5th LSL Board of Alderman meeting.

George’s Alderman Highlights – June 20/July 5, 2011

June 20/Budget:  This meeting was entirely devoted to getting approval for next year’s budget.  The big argument was about giving city employees a cost of living salary increase.  The range was from zero to 3.8%.  Finally we voted on a 2.0% or 2.2% increase.  The Mayor broke a tie vote settling on a 2.2% increase.  The Board said this subject would be reviewed in November when next years Health Care costs are known.

Annexation:  We discussed annexing some 34 pockets of land around the city.  The concern is that future developments could detract from our city if they are not up to our standards.  Some areas are along major streets or highways and would be candidates for commercial development.  Most of the land discussed is currently vacant or has one renter on it.  All of these parcels currently abide by St. Charles County standards.  If we intend to annex any of these areas, we should do so before homes are built on them. We decided to send the owners a letter to see if they are interested in voluntary annexations.  What do you think?

Falun Gong:  Several speakers at the public hearings asked the Board to sign a resolution demanding that China stop repressing the Falun Gong religion/clubs.  They cited terrible tortures being inflicted on FG members by the Chinese government.  They said thousands of their members had been killed by the government.  The Board decided to leave this issue to our state and national government.

Freymuth Right-of-Way:  We are having trouble getting the right-of-ways needed for the Freymuth road construction.  Several homes will lose mature trees and are asking for more monetary compensation than the city has offered.

Green’s Store Dog Run: Green’s has asked for permission to build a dog run in front of their store on Highway N.  This area has a large pond that dogs could play in.  We referred the request to the Planning & Zoning Commission for an opinion on the type of fence to be used.

CA Report:  The CA tennis courts are open and the new surface should be good for about 25 yrs.  Dauphine Bay will be dredged this fall.  The By-laws committee will report to the CA Board this July.

Board Retreat:  The Board will hold a retreat in August to discuss long term issues that seldom get any face time at regular meetings.  Do you have any long term issues that you want us to consider putting in the agenda?
