Police Officers Helping With Bike Drive for Charity

About 350 kids earn bikes each year with the help of BWorks.

If you have an old bike or bikes, or even bike parts to donate, the Lake Saint Louis Police Department has a plan for them.

The department is partnering with BicycleWorks on a bike drive. On Sat., July 20 at the Lake Saint Louis Farmers and Artists Market, members of the Lake Saint Louis bicycle patrol will help collect donations of old bike and bike parts.

The Farmers and Artists Market is located in the southeast corner of the Meadows, near the fountain. Hours are 8 a.m. until noon.

The officers will also distribute bicycle safety information during the event.

Donated bikes will be reconditioned or rebuilt by BWorks, a St. Louis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to challenge young people in a safe, supportive environment. The program helps about 350 kids earn bikes each year.

The charity also offers refurbished bikes to the public, with the proceeds helping to fund their programs.

BWorks programs include ByteWorks, which helps kids earn computers, and BookWorks, which helps kids write and illustrate their own books.
