Drive Slower and Spend Less on Gasoline

Do you want to spend less money at the pump each week?

How much do you spend on gas?

I spend about $40-$45 a week. I drive quite a few miles to and from work five days a week, but I also drive a car that is great on gas.

Even though my little car is great on gas mileage, I am still interested in saving as much as 35 percent a week on the amount of gas I burn as I cruise up an down the highway. For me, that is a savings of over $800 a year!

So, what is the secret on saving so much money? It is very, very simple.

Drive slower.

That’s it?

Yup, that’s it. Not a big deal, right?

Well, you may find it hard to allow car after car scoot by on your left as you save so much money, but you will get used to it. I admit, it was kind of hard for me to get used to. But I did.

My prior driving habits were something like this: merge as far left as I could and then keep pace with the car ahead of me. Now that I am comfortable letting people pass me, I think of how strange it was to feel almost left out as drivers flew by.  It was like being in junior high again and having the better athletes beat me at everything I attempted to do.

But I got over my adolescent fear and began to be more comfortable letting the bigger kids...er...other drivers zoom past as I sit back and enjoy the ride. Seriously, I am finding that I am less stressed in my commute also. That’s a bonus! And, that’s more money in my pocket.

Or truthfully, more money for something else.

Oh, and one more thing.  Driving slower will also save on brake wear and tear.  And you have a lesser chance of rear-ending someone.  It all sounds good to me.

Drive a little slower, save a lot of money and a bit of sanity.
