Politics as Usual?

Unemployment, foreclosures, demonstrations, wars, oil prices, health care, regulations, entitlements...it's all coming together to create a political maelstrom.

The presidential election in 2012 will be sure to generate a lot of news stories over the next 12 months. In one short year, we will be electing a new President of the United States. While the field is full of contenders on the Republican side, the Democrats will not be jockeying for position to be the nominee for president. That will be filled by the incumbent Barack Obama.

Or will it?

That is the type of question that will surely be discussed and debated ad nauseum in the foreseeable future.

There are some who say that Obama may not run in 2012. If that is true, then it will be a move not seen in the modern political landscape.

What are other issues that are on the table for discussion in this volatile political climate?

Joblessness is still high, currently at 9.1 percent. The “Occupy” protests are occurring throughout the country, even in St. Louis. The protesters say they are organizing because they are against big banks. But what is their real goal?

St. Louis Mayor Frances Slay wrote that "he sympathized with OccupySTL's cause and appreciated the issues they are raising.” One protester was quoted as saying, “The goal is to reform the system, spread the wealth and help some of the people who are struggling in this country."

I think reformation of systems that do not work is a great idea. I don’t think many people would argue that our current financial system is not working well. In addition, helping people who are struggling is also a great idea. I’m all for it! Personally, I try to help out others any time I can.

But I’m not for spreading the wealth. I already pay enough in taxes. I do not wish to pay more.

St. Louis — your mayor wants to spread the wealth. Are you ready to take more of your income and watch it go out of your bank account? If the Occupy protesters have their way then that’s what you’ll get.

And your mayor sympathizes with them.

Do you know who else has stated that they sympathize with the "Occupy" protestors? President Obama. But that should not surprise anyone. He actually uttered the phrase "spread the wealth" during his campaign for President back in 2008.

In addition, some interesting information has been coming out about the money that is funding these "Occupy" protests. I urge everyone to read up on who is truly behind it all.
