Board of Aldermen Highlights March 5, 2012

Board highlights and three meetings to watch for.

At the 5:30 work session , there were 5 items on the agenda:

1. St. Louis regional sustainable communities plan

Communities included in the plan area are Lake St. Louis, Wentzville, and O'Fallon. We have rapid growth in western St. Charles county in the last decade and with it comes concerns. The Board has had preliminary discussions about where we are going and where we need to be. Now we need input from you, the residents, on your ideas of things like what needs to be improved in our community, what you want preserved, etc. This initiative will allow you to do just that on March 29, 2012 meeting at the CA clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. East-West Gateway is one of the many partners in this endeavor and will be there to ask your input. They will also explain the entire plan.

2. Discussion of a voluntary annexation involving the city of O'Fallon to include a big box store and another parcel of development along Highway N and Orf Road. The developer has requested certain changes to our code to be able to build a quality development. We discussed the options and decided to amend what was requested and send it back to the developer for consideration. Two of the things in discussion that everyone will be interested in are density and building height.

3. The city has intiated a recruiting committee to encourage retailers and businesses to locate in our city. The committee consists of Alderman John Pellerito, City Administrator Paul Markworth, and Assistant City Administrator Eric Sterman. We have developed a brochure that you can view on the city website that we will use to attract businesses our way.
