More of Kristi Gilbert's Fabulous Finds

I'm adding to my list of local faves; newbies include the local park districts, a classic diner, and a coupon-friendly Mexican restaurant.

I would like to begin this article by thanking my friend, Kathleen, for all of the recommendations she has given me since my family moved here. She's lived in Clarendon Hills for a while now and has been my go-to person for all of my questions. This girl knows her stuff and has pointed me in the right direction every time. With her help, and my own discovery skills, I've managed to compile a list of my latest favorites from our new community.

Here goes nothing:

Nature's Best Foods at Cass and Chicago avenues in Westmont has cheap produce and Boar's Head brand deli meats. It reminds me of Stanley's in Chicago.

Clarendon Hills Park District; Hinsdale Parks and Recreation; and community : If you haven't already signed up the kids for summer classes at the Clarendon Hills Park District, then you might be behind schedule! I'm told these classes fill up fast so it's best to get in as soon as they release their summer program class schedules. Also, if you're thinking about getting your pool pass, do it early because you'll get better pricing. Hurry up and take advantage before the rates go up on June 1.

Page's Diner in Hinsdale is nothing short of delish! I highly recommend ordering "The Skillet"—and wearing elastic pants. Don't let the facade of the building fool you, because good food awaits!

Clarendon Hills Public Library was mentioned in a previous article.  I thought I would reiterate how great (and FREE) their children's reading programs are. Look them up online to follow their schedule as it changes with the seasons.

Fontano's Subs in Hinsdale is a quaint place where you can get a great sammy for a great deal.

Nancy's Pizza in Westmont is our go-to place when we need to get our pizza fix. With respect to the local competitors, Nancy's was the first place we tried when we moved here, and we loved it. We're not HUGE fans of change; when we find a good thing, we tend to stick with it. With that said, their pizza is soooo good. The ingredients are super-fresh and the staff is appreciative of the business and I like that.

La Mex in Downers Grove has great Mexican food. Even better, if you receive the Coupon Clipper magazine in the mail, you can score one of many "Buy One Meal, Get One FREE" coupons. We go weekly and never run out of coupons.

Cooper's Hawk Winery in Burr Ridge is a must-try, too.  The food is great and is an ideal spot for a nice lunch with friends. It's busy enough to provide good people-watching, yet you can almost always be guaranteed a seat.

Lastly, I can't forget to mention Kohler Water Spa. The hubs got me a hefty gift card for Mother's Day that I will be cashing in one of these days on a full day of treatments.

As I discover more favorites, I will be sure to share them with you.  All I ask in return is that you share with me your favorites so I can continue my adventures... and continue to find material to write about!
